Ignition timing

Do you advance or retard ignition timing using browns gas?

On reading about the Joe Cell it said that he adjusted the timing closer to top dead center which would be retarding the sparkng. This was due to hydrogen already being a gas and gasoline is a vapor when it enters the cylinder. And hydrogen burns faster.This engine with a carburator.

Also it was said by another video that retarding the spark made it more efficient. Also to avoid a backfire from the carburator.

In fuel injected enginese possibility of a backfire is not expected.
