HHO gas (browns gas, oxygen-hydrogen or Hydroxy gas ) is the rediscovered (old) innovation to improve the combustion of fossile fuels, resulting in increased power and cleaner emissions. Your car will not be totally dependent on water but will be a hybrid of sorts by utilizing water as a catalyst once it is broken down to so called BG or HHO gas (oxygen & hydrogen). By using HHO gas as one can expect to see and increase in gas mileage between 8 - 50% (depending on engine design, fuel and HHO gas volume etc.!) This is not new technology but is starting to get rediscovered as gas and diesel prices continue to increase and to make our vehicles more environmentally friendly (CO2 reduction). The oxygen & hydrogen improves the combustion of fossile fuels. (see History of Water as Fuel) ( More information can be found in the new Water Car Book)
Good Demo by EPOCH Energy
In (f.e.) a carburetor, the air that is filled with Hydrogen will explode milli seconds faster than air with no hydrogen, resulting in that the whole combustion camber that's filled with hydrogen explode all at once when the spark plug activate a spark. This result in a better combustion of the fuel. The amount of energy in it (442 Kcal) add "fuel" to help push down the piston. At normal temperature and pressure, Hydrogen gas can burn when it is between 4% and 94% hydrogen by volume. If you cannot get to 4% nothing will happen. Note: in water only 11% is hydrogen (by volume) because oxygen molecules are much heavier.
How does it work?
With electricity from your vehicle's battery HHO is being produced from water (and often catalyst like KOH or NAOH) HHO gas is directed to your vehicle's air-intake.
In general, because the HHO gas is, mixed with air, a highly (better) explosive gas you
will be needing between 8% and 30 % less conventional fuel like gasoline, diesel, LPG, biodiesel etc.
With other words, it helps to get more power out of your conventional fuel.
With a medium sized engine and medium size HHO generator the average is 10-20% in fuel savings.
Maybe even more important - air pollution will be significantly reduced (20-60%).
NOTE: Diesel or Petrol/Gas engines have a totally different way of combustion. In general the best savings are with Petrol engines. But we (Brownsgas.com team) confirmes 30% fuel savings with some diesel engines are possible. specially older engines.) Average on large modern Diesel engines will be between 8 & 20 % in average.
Recommended:
1- 0,5 - 1 liter of HHO gas per 1 Liter of engine size. Most egines (especially Diesel engines) might require even less % HHO.
2- 0,5 - 1 LPM per 50 BHP
Most newer Dry Cell systems need a water refill once a month.
Which fuel saver would be the best for my vehicle?
Safety first. Prefer a HHO fuel saver design with isolated electrodes or electrodes that are not be placed in the gas (like Dry Cell systems). Connections could reach a temp. that could ignite your gas, or a connection can come loose causing spark making it unsafe. your flasback arrestor will do nothing for this situation.
If your vehicle has a oxygen sensor and you use the Air-intake system it is sometimes recommended that you install a lambda (EFIE) control otherwise you might not get maximum fuel savings. (A fuel to air mixture of about 14 to 1 is recommended. With a Lamda / EFIE module you can fool the CO2 sensor and it will give you better gas mileage. Find good links to EFIE specialists at our HHO links page.
With a EFIE and HHO gas injection your engine will guaranteed use less fuel. The HHO allows you to run your engine on a leaner fuel mixture. Vehicles with a carburator don't need an EFIE or Lambda adjuster. An EFIE system combined with HHO injection allows you to run your engine on a leaner mixture. Find great links
In general the first results appear after the first 60 - 200miles. The HHO gas will clean the engine and will quickly start to run smoother. It takes time to totally clean the inside of the engine. Petrol engines are more polluted than Diesel engines.
In case you need to use an EFIE (Petrol engines with a Lambda sensor AND low HHO gas production), the oxygen sensor extension is another option. But not as recommended as the EFIE adjuster. This gas saving extander works by moving the sensor further away from the exhaust flow, the sensor and ecu would lean out the A/F(air fuel) ratio enough to save 5%~7% on your gas bill.*Simply just screw it on to your existing Front O2 sensor. Burns cleaner, saves gas, and gives you more quicker throttle response. This Extender is Universal, fits all the cars except1999 or older Toyota o2 sensors that use 2 bolts to attach to the exhaust pipeSaturns and some GM cars will need to modify the extender to fit.

HHO gas fuel savers work very good for most engines, especially petrol, gasoline and LPG. expect 20% or even MORE fuel savings.
Bio-diesel gives better results than normal diesel. Large HHO generators are are highly recommended for trucks. Recent report from Scotland and UK prove fuel savings between 10 - 18% on large transportation Lorries and trucks.
Like in the videos on this page sometimes the vacuum hose has been used as HHO intake.
As for your HHO fuel saver cleans up your engine expect even more savings within 2 weeks (400 miles) use because of a more efficient running engine. Also will it run more smooth and silent.
NOTE: for HHO generators in general it is sometimes recommended to use a Pulse Width Modulator. To get even more efficient HHO gas production AND keep your HHO generator cool. Watch Pulse Power Video Exact Meyer HHO Pulse Circuit design

How to install a HHO Gas Fuel Saver / Hydroxy Booster?
In general HHO Gas fuel savers are easy to install.
Not all manuals by the different manufacturers are complete.
Make sure you watch the following:
Do not install near by any excessive heat such as, muffler exhaust. Otherwise your fuel saver could overheat and the water will turn into steam. Plastic fuel savers might even melt.
always secure your fuel saver to a steady place
do not leave any wire or hoses hanging or lose, always attach
we recommend to use destilled water or natural bottled mineral water only
Make 100% sure power shuts off automically when engine is turned off
One or more flashback arrestors in the HHO tube line are highly recommended

How to use a HHO Gas Fuel Saver
Depending on generator design, use distilled water or bottled mineral water with a catalyst (KOH or NaOh). Plate designs with a very short distance between the plates sometimes work with tap water (which might likely turn the water brownish, a bigger distance between the plates will always need a catalyst / electrolyte. More information about HHO / Hydroxy generator electrodes
Only refill your fuel saver when cold and engine turned off.
Only turn your fuel saver on when engine is running.
Do not exceed power recommended by the manufacturer.
(in general 8 - 15 amps at 12 volt.)
Do not modify your fuel saver as of this could be dangerous,
void manufacturer's warranty or destroy your fuel saver.
A few Basic HHO rules in a nutshelf:
Electrodes should be made of 316 L stainless steel (or titanium coated
Use distilled water (or rainwater / de-ionized) and KOH (or Naoh) as electrolyte
Don't exceed 2,2 volts between the plates
Keep the HHO Cell temperature under 50 degrees Celsius
take care of safety!!!! ( one way valves, pressure valve, outo shut off etc.)
Which Electrolyte / Catalyst should I use for my HHO Generator?
Life expectancy will vary depending on many factors - electrical input, running amps, water mixtures, chemicals used, etc. Electrodes of stainless steel will rust. Especially when your HHO generator gets hot it will be prone to rust. With a PWM you will be able to control the heat and it will extend the lifetime of your HHO generator.
Titanium and platinum (plated) electrodes will last very long.
For small and medium sized vehicles do not draw more than 20 amps from your battery otherwise you might damage it. (also depends on battery size). Trucks or big vehicles, boats easily can draw 40 amps.)
General HHO Gas fuel saver information:
A good Hydrogen system produce (at least) about 0.5 liters per minute
Ratio 5 : 1
(5 liters Hydrogen) : (1 liter of fuel)
At 100 km / h you travel 1.6 km / minute (100km / 60 min.)
You average 16 km (example) / 1 liter of fuel
Time to travel 16 km = 10 min. (16 km / 1.6km)
Hydrogen production 0.5 liter / min.
10 min. = 5 liter Hydrogen

For Diesel applications; When the hydrogen enriched air is compressed, the diesel fuel is introduced with a resulting improvement in fuel efficiency and maximized combustion of the fuel.

A 50% reduction in fuel consumption, at idle, was reported by numerically analyzing an on-board hydrogen reformer operating at 80% efficiency.

A 50% reduction in fuel consumption is equivalent to a 100% increase in kilometers. When Brown's Gas burns it forms water, resulting in "cooling the combustion chambers of engines", effectively "allowing for greater compression ratios"
